On October 29, 2022 SHOCK and AWE Productions provided full production for a WAKA FLAKA FLAME concert in the mountains of Bryson City North Carolina.
Back in the Summer of 2022, we received a phone call from a local NC music promoter, to provide full production for a proposed outdoor Waka Flaka concert for the community. We had numerous conversations with the client, and the SHOCK and AWE Productions team customized a package to fit their needs and budget.
We have an inventory of deck and mobile stages to fit any size performance, and we agreed on our 24×20 Apex mobile stage as the solution for staging needs on this project, along with a 20×20 deck stage for VIP side seating.
After procuring the proper stage rentals, we moved onto sound ideas. Based on the projected attendance of 5,000+, we concluded an 8 over 8 JBL Vertec line array P.A. would be sufficient for the location in the mountains, crowd size, and level performer we were accommodating.
Finally, the remaining factor was stage lighting. Our client was seeking an EDM type lighting package, due to the show openers and headliner presentation needed. Our Apex stage is designed to support specific weight upstage and downstage for lighting instruments. On the downstage truss, we mounted several LED White / Amber fresnel pars for front lighting, along with 5, 2-lt crowd moles for audience participation. Up stage we flew 6 moving head 3 in 1 spots and 12 LED RGB fixed pars for backlighting and effects. On the stage deck itself, We added 4- 6′ vertical truss towers with bases, and stacked a moving light profile spot on top, along with more LED RGB matching pars for additional back-lighting, as well as 4 4-lt crowd moles attached to each tower. On the deck and below each truss, we placed a 200 watt LED beam for more effects. Along the front of the stage were 4 cryo foggers, and 4 cold spark machines to accent key elements of the concert with energy and excitement. We also placed hazer machines left and right of stage to keep a constant flow of haze for the lighting to pierce through.
The date arrived, and we brought in several trucks pulling gear, and set up the stage, as well as getting a start on loading in of equipment. There was roughly a 12 man crew present, to facilitate loading in and set up. Included in the crew was an A-1 and A-2 for audio, and an L-1 and L-2 for lighting, plus 2 coordinators for direction in placement of equipment, as well as adequate number of stage hands. The entire process was lengthy but we were prepared for dialing everything on show day.
On day of event, our team finished tweaking the entire system, and sound check began around 2 pm. Doors were 5 pm, and the crowd came in droves. The concert started at 6:15 with the first opener. We had no equipment or audio issues for the openers, and Waka Flaka entered the stage after 9pm. He rocked the show, and the crowd was into it throughout the whole performance, dancing, singing, and loving the presentation we provided for it. Everything was peaceful, on time, and worked like a well oiled machine, from start to finish. 11pm was the scheduled end time, and strike had begun in swift fashion. Trucks began backing up, equipment was coming down, and being unplugged, bodies were everywhere, gear cases loading up, and in 3 hours, everything was back to normal on property. Another successful event by SHOCK & AWE Productions was in the books, and the next morning, we all headed back to the warehouse to pack equipment back in place.
